Essential tremor

How can hypnotherapy help essential tremor?

Promote relaxation, reduce stress and build confidence

Essential tremor (ET) often worsens during periods of stress or tiredness. Stress is known to contribute to a range of health issues, including heart disease, high blood pressure and immune suppression, so it’s not surprising that people with ET may find their tremor intensifies when they feel anxious or fatigued. Stress can also make it harder to cope emotionally with the condition itself.

Learning how to relax and manage stress effectively can therefore become an important part of your mind–body–health toolkit. Hypnotherapy can help you to manage stress, reduce anxiety and approach life with greater calm and confidence. Through working with the subconscious mind, it can also help you to reframe how you respond in stressful situations, allowing you to regain a greater sense of control — which may in turn have secondary benefits for your tremor.

In addition to hypnotherapy during sessions, I can teach you self-hypnosis techniques to support relaxation and resilience in daily life.

People with essential tremor sometimes feel stressed, anxious or embarrassed about their condition, which may lead to avoiding social situations or withdrawing from activities. Hypnotherapy can help to ease anxiety, reduce negative thoughts and strengthen confidence in your ability to cope and live more freely.

Healing

Healing is based on the understanding that there is a universal energy that flows through all living things, surrounds us and is accessible to everyone. When we experience illness, imbalance, or emotional distress, this energy can be used to restore harmony and promote wellbeing. Some healers describe themselves as channels for this energy, while others see their role as helping to awaken the body’s own innate capacity for healing.

While there is ongoing debate about how healing actually works, many people report real and meaningful benefits. Some doctors attribute these effects to the placebo response or the power of suggestion – but that in itself highlights the remarkable influence of the mind on the body. The placebo effect is a reminder that belief, expectation, and the subconscious mind play profound roles in recovery.

I would not describe hypnotherapy as ‘healing’ in the terms above, and yet there is evidence that a positive attitude, belief and expectation do affect the body. The subconscious is where your deepest beliefs reside.

With so much still unknown about the brain and the connection between mind and body, it makes sense to stay open-minded about the power of your own subconscious to tap in to healing forces, whether internal or external. Hypnotherapy may help to boost your confidence in your body’s ability to find healing and can at least help you access deep relaxation – and that in itself can bring comfort, ease, and balance.
